This squadron specialized in attacks on bombers, usually flying nine aircraft in flights of three and attacking from below and to the rear. In the final months of the war, with most of their airfields destroyed, the pilots of JV 44 were often taking off from the Autobahn. The Allies overran the unit at war's end and the Messerschmitt Me 262's brief Luftwaffe career was over.
